Alta Via 2 Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

READ THIS FIRST: these files are a route traced from OpenStreetMap, not my
recording. My original GPS recordings from July 2021 are not available, so the
line was rebuilt along the mapped trails I used, placed with the locations of
my phone photos and what I say in my film. Elevations come from a terrain
model, and the distances and climbing in the guide come from these files. The
line is close to what I walked but not exact. On Day 2 it climbs Val Setus,
the Alta Via 2 line; my photos don't confirm which way I went up.

They cover the five days I walked on the Alta Via 2 in July 2021, from La Villa
and Corvara in Alta Badia to Passo Valles. This is a section of the Alta Via 2,
not the whole official route.

THE FILES

alta-via-2-day-1.gpx Day 1: La Villa to Passo Gardena (via Puez and Sass da Ciampac)
alta-via-2-day-2.gpx Day 2: Corvara to Rifugio Kostner (via Val Setus and Piz Boe)
alta-via-2-day-3.gpx Day 3: Rifugio Kostner to Passo Fedaia (two parts: the gap is
the Sass Pordoi cable car, which I rode down)
alta-via-2-day-4.gpx Day 4: Malga Ciapela to Rifugio Contrin (via Passo Ombretta)
alta-via-2-day-5.gpx Day 5: Rifugio Contrin to Passo Valles (via Fuciade and
                       Passo San Pellegrino)
alta-via-2-full-route.gpx All five days in one file, with waypoints for the
                            huts, passes and lifts.

Not drawn: my taxi from Passo Fedaia down to Malga Ciapela on the morning of
Day 4, and the taxi from Passo Valles to Moena.

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline maps for Trentino-Alto Adige
(South Tyrol and Trentino) and Veneto. Then open the GPX file on your phone and
choose Organic Maps. It works fully offline.

Before you leave home, download offline maps and check that each day shows up
in your app. Trails, signs and huts change. Follow the trail signs on the
ground and use this as a guide, not a guarantee.
