Canary Islands Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of my five walking days across Tenerife,
December 9 to 14, 2024 (I took December 10 off at the hostel): from Cruz del
Carmen in the Anaga mountains down to the north coast at Almaciga, back over
the mountains to La Laguna, up the GR 131 through the pine forest to a camp
above Aguamansa, up to El Portillo and across Las Canadas to the Parador, and
over the caldera rim at the Degollada de Ucanca down to Vilaflor, where I
stopped, sick. They show the way I actually walked. All timestamps have been
removed.

canary-islands-full-route.gpx All five days in one file, plus waypoints
for the places named in the guide.

stats.json The numbers for each day, and how they were
                                  worked out.

My app didn't pause in a way that leaves a gap, so each day is one track. The
first few miles of Day 3, from La Laguna past the airport to La Esperanza, are
on roads; most hikers take a bus or a taxi to La Esperanza instead. I wild
camped at the end of Day 3. Camping outside the Cabildo's official camping
zones isn't allowed in Tenerife's protected areas: the guide lists the zones
near the route.

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for the Canary Islands. Then
open the GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your
bookmarks and tracks list and works fully offline.

Check the Cabildo de Tenerife's trail closures before you go: trails close for
fire risk, storms and repairs. There's no reliable drinking water on the trail
between La Esperanza and El Portillo. Use this as a guide, not a guarantee.
