Choquequirao Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of my three days hiking alone from the
Capuliyoc trailhead above Cachora, Peru, down into the Apurímac canyon, up to
the Inca site of Choquequirao and back, May 25 to 27, 2019. They show the way
I actually walked. All timestamps have been removed.

THE FILES

choquequirao-day-1.gpx Day 1: Capuliyoc to Santa Rosa Alta (9.1 mi / 14.7 km)
choquequirao-day-2.gpx Day 2: Santa Rosa Alta to Choquequirao and back down
to Playa Rosalina (13.5 mi / 21.7 km)
choquequirao-day-3.gpx Day 3: Playa Rosalina to Capuliyoc (6.7 mi / 10.8 km)
choquequirao-full-route.gpx All three days in one file, plus waypoints for the
trailhead, the campsites, where I left my pack
below the ruins, the main plaza and the llama
                              terraces.

On Day 2 my recording paused a few times at the ruins: almost a mile in all,
most of it between the llama terraces and the campsite below the ruins, was
not recorded. The road from Cachora to the Capuliyoc trailhead
(about 11 km, I took a taxi) is not in the files.

Total: 29.3 mi (47.2 km), about 12,460 ft (3,800 m) of climbing and the same
down.

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for Peru. Then open the
GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your bookmarks
and tracks list and works fully offline.

Before you leave home, download offline maps and check that each day shows up
in your app. Don't count on phone signal in the canyon. The trail closes in
some rainy seasons after landslides: check the Ministry of Culture's notices
before you go. Paths, campsites and rules change. Use this as a guide, not a
guarantee.
