Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of my rim to rim hike in Grand Canyon
National Park, Arizona, on October 30 and 31, 2019: down the South Kaibab
Trail to Bright Angel Campground, then up the North Kaibab Trail to the North
Rim. They show the way I actually walked. All timestamps have been removed,
and each track is thinned to a point every 15 m.

READ THIS FIRST (OCTOBER 2026): after the August 29, 2026 flash flood the
park closed the whole North Kaibab Trail, Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel
Campground, both river bridges and the South Kaibab Trail below the Tipoff,
with no estimated reopening. Check the park's Key Hiking Messages page
(nps.gov/grca) before you plan anything.

grand-canyon-rim-to-rim-day-1.gpx Day 1: South Kaibab Trailhead, Ooh Aah
Point, Cedar Ridge, Skeleton Point, the Tipoff, the
tunnel and the Black Bridge to Bright Angel
                       Campground (7.0 mi / 11.3 km)
grand-canyon-rim-to-rim-day-2.gpx Day 2: from about 4.2 miles up the North
Kaibab Trail (I didn't record the first part), Ribbon
                       Falls, Cottonwood Campground, Manzanita, Roaring
Springs Canyon, Supai Tunnel and the North Kaibab
Trailhead, then the road to the North Rim Campground
                       (12.7 mi / 20.5 km recorded)
grand-canyon-rim-to-rim-full-route.gpx Both days in one file, plus
waypoints for the places named in the guide.

Day 2, two things to know:
- The first 4.2 miles, from Bright Angel Campground up Bright Angel Creek,
are not in the file. A waypoint marks where my recording starts.
- Between Manzanita and Supai Tunnel, in the cliffs of Roaring Springs
Canyon, the phone's position wandered off the trail. The track reads 4.9
miles there where the trail is about 3.5, and its heights jump up and down.
Follow the trail, not the line, in that stretch.

The guide measures Day 2 on one line (the unrecorded start and the
Manzanita to Supai Tunnel stretch on the trail line, my track everywhere
else): 14.9 mi (24.0 km) and about 6,120 ft (1,870 m) of climbing to the
North Kaibab Trailhead. Total, trailhead to trailhead: 21.9 mi (35.3 km).

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for Arizona. Then open the
GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your bookmarks
and tracks list and works fully offline.

Before you leave the South Rim, download offline maps and check that each day
shows up in your app. Don't count on a phone signal in the canyon. Trails,
bridges, water and rules change: check the park's notices before you go. Use
this as a guide, not a guarantee.
