Grand Canyon Tonto Trail Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of two days in the Grand Canyon on November
2 and 3, 2020: from Hermits Rest down the Hermit Trail, east on the Tonto
Trail past Monument Creek, Cedar Spring, Salt Creek and Horn Creek to
Havasupai Gardens Campground (then called Indian Garden), then up the
Bright Angel Trail to the Bright Angel Trailhead. They show the way I
actually walked. All timestamps have been removed.

(the Waldron and Dripping Springs junctions, Santa
Maria Spring, the Cathedral Stairs), the Tonto Trail
junction, Monument Creek, Cedar Spring, Salt Creek,
Horn Creek, the Plateau Point Trail junction and
Havasupai Gardens Campground (20.9 mi / 33.6 km)
grand-canyon-tonto-trail-day-2.gpx Day 2: Havasupai Gardens, the
Three-Mile and Mile-and-a-Half resthouses and the
Bright Angel Trailhead (5.0 mi / 8.1 km)
grand-canyon-tonto-trail-full-route.gpx Both days in one file, plus
waypoints for the junctions, the springs and creeks,
the campsites, the resthouses and where I slept.

My tracks read a little longer than the park's figures (about 26 miles in
all against NPS's 24.8 to 25.3): GPS wanders a little under canyon walls,
and the park measures the trail itself. NPS's mileages are in the guide.

                       worked out.

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for Arizona. Then open the
GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your bookmarks
and tracks list and works fully offline.

Download offline maps before you leave the rim: there's almost no cell signal
in the canyon. Trails, water and closures change: check the park's Key Hiking
Messages page (nps.gov/grca) before you go. In October 2026 every water tap
below the rim is off. Use this as a guide, not a guarantee.
