Iztaccíhuatl Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of two days on Iztaccíhuatl, Mexico, on
March 7 and 8, 2023: from the national park office at Paso de Cortés past
Altzomoni and La Joya and up the ridge to the Grupo de los Cien hut, where I
slept; then, the next morning, from the hut up to my turnaround at the First
Knee (Primera Rodilla) and all the way back down to Paso de Cortés. They show
the way I actually walked. All timestamps have been removed.

NOT THE SUMMIT. My recordings stop at the First Knee, about 16,500 ft
(5,030 m) by my GPS. The summit, El Pecho, is about a mile farther north along
the ridge, over the Second Knee, Monte de Venus and the belly (La Panza).
There is no track for that part here.

iztaccihuatl-day-2.gpx Day 2: the hut to the First Knee and back, then down
past La Joya to Paso de Cortés (7.6 mi / 12.3 km)

portillos, the hut and my turnaround.

                       worked out.

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for Mexico. Then open the
GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your bookmarks
and tracks list and works fully offline.

Download offline maps before you leave Mexico City or Amecameca: don't count
on a signal on the mountain. Popocatépetl's activity can close Paso de Cortés
at short notice: check CENAPRED's volcanic alert level and the park's notices
before you go. Use this as a guide, not a guarantee.
