Lantau Trail Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of four days on the Lantau Trail, Hong Kong,
January 25 to 28, 2025: from the Mui Wo ferry pier up to a camp below Sunset
Peak; over Sunset Peak's shoulder to Pak Kung Au, then (after a taxi break in
Tung Chung) over Lantau Peak to Ngong Ping; from Ngong Ping to Tai O and down
the west coast to Tsin Yue Wan; and by Fan Lau and Kau Ling Chung to South
Lantau Road at Shek Pik. Lantau Trail Sections 1 to 8. They show the way I
actually walked. All timestamps have been removed.

for the places named in the guide.

stats.json The numbers for each day, and how they were
                                worked out.

IMPORTANT: part of Section 7 (from south of Kan Tau Au past Tsin Yue Wan to
Fan Lau) and Tsin Yue Wan Campsite have been closed since October 10, 2025.
The end of my Day 3 track and the start of my Day 4 track follow that closed
stretch: don't follow them while the closure lasts. Check AFCD's notices at
hiking.gov.hk/news. My first night's camp, below Sunset Peak, was not a
designated campsite; in Hong Kong's country parks you may only camp at one.

The tracks include our wandering in Ngong Ping and Tai O. AFCD's hiking site
has an official GPX for each section.

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for Hong Kong. Then open the
GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your bookmarks
and tracks list and works fully offline.

There's no water on the mountains between Nam Shan and Ngong Ping. In an
emergency call 999 or 112 and give the number on the nearest distance post
(L001 to L139). Use this as a guide, not a guarantee.
