New Zealand Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of the four tracks I walked on New Zealand's
South Island in November 2023: the Rees-Dart, the Kepler, the Routeburn and
the Milford. They show the way I actually walked. All timestamps have been
removed.

THINGS TO KNOW

- The Dart Track between Daleys Flat Hut and Chinamans Bluff (Day 3) was
closed by a slip when this guide was made (DOC: until at least December
2026). Check the DOC Rees-Dart page before you go.
- Day 7 has a gap near Lake Harris, where the app stopped recording.
- Day 7 ends at my tent at Lake Wilson, off the Great Walk. Read the camping
rules in the guide before copying it.
- Day 10 stops on the side track toward Sutherland Falls.
- The Milford days follow the guided walk's lodges. Independent walkers
stay at Clinton, Mintaro and Dumpling huts (see the guide).

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for New Zealand (South
Island). Then open the GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It
shows up in your bookmarks and tracks list and works fully offline.

There's no cell coverage on most of these tracks. Before you leave home,
download offline maps and check that each day shows up in your app. Tracks,
rules and timetables change. Use this as a guide, not a guarantee.
