Sawtooth Wilderness Loop Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of my three days hiking alone around a loop
in the Sawtooth Wilderness, Idaho, July 17 to 19, 2020, from the Grandjean
Trailhead and back. They show the way I actually walked. All timestamps have
been removed.

THE FILES

sawtooth-loop-day-1.gpx Day 1: Grandjean to Baron Lake (25.7 mi / 41.4 km)
sawtooth-loop-day-2.gpx Day 2: Baron Lake to the Ten Lake Basin (20.8 mi / 33.5 km)
sawtooth-loop-day-3.gpx Day 3: Ten Lake Basin to Grandjean (24.8 mi / 39.9 km)
sawtooth-loop-full-route.gpx All three days in one file, plus waypoints for
the trailhead, the trail junctions, the passes,
the lakes and my two camps.

Total: 71.3 mi (114.7 km), about 11,350 ft (3,460 m) of climbing and the same
of descent.

Day 1 starts at the trailhead (my recording began with a short walk around
it) and Day 3 ends at the trailhead (my recording kept running while I drove
up the road). Those bits are left out.

CLOSURE: in July 2026 debris flows destroyed the Grandjean Campground and
Trailhead. The Forest Service closed the Grandjean area, its road, the Trail
Creek Trail and the first part of the South Fork Payette River Trail through
December 31, 2026 (order 0414-04-165). Check the Sawtooth National Forest
alerts before you go: fs.usda.gov/r04/sawtooth/alerts

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for Idaho. Then open the
GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your bookmarks
and tracks list and works fully offline.

Before you leave home, download offline maps and check that each day shows up
in your app. Don't count on phone signal. Trails, rules and closures change.
