Teton Crest Trail Hiking Guide: GPX files
Kraig Adams, kraigadams.com

These are my own GPS recordings of my two days hiking alone around a loop
over the Teton crest in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, September 3 and
4, 2020, from String Lake and back, with one night in Alaska Basin (Jedediah
Smith Wilderness, just outside the park). They show the way I actually
walked. All timestamps have been removed.

THE FILES

teton-crest-trail-day-1.gpx Day 1: String Lake to Alaska Basin (22.7 mi / 36.5 km)
teton-crest-trail-day-2.gpx Day 2: Alaska Basin to String Lake (27.6 mi / 44.5 km)
teton-crest-trail-full-route.gpx Both days in one file, plus waypoints for
                                   the trailheads, junctions, passes, lakes
                                   and my camp.

Total: 50.3 mi (80.9 km), about 9,460 ft (2,880 m) of climbing and the same
of descent.

PERMITS AND CLOSURES: every night you camp inside Grand Teton National Park
needs a park backcountry permit, and overnight parking at String Lake is only
allowed with one (2026). In 2026 the old Death Canyon Trailhead, which the
Day 2 track passes, is closed to all use during construction (to June 2027).
Check nps.gov/grte/planyourvisit/conditions.htm before you go.

HOW TO LOAD THEM

AllTrails: on a computer, sign in at alltrails.com, create a new map and use
Import to upload the file. The map then shows up in the app on your phone.
Downloading it for offline use needs a paid AllTrails plan.

Gaia GPS: on your phone, open the file from Files, email or AirDrop and choose
Gaia GPS, or on gaiagps.com choose Import. Then download the map area for
offline use.

Garmin: in Garmin Connect (web), go to Training, Courses, Import, and pick the
file. Save it as a course and send it to your watch.

Organic Maps: first download the free offline map for Wyoming. Then open the
GPX file on your phone and choose Organic Maps. It shows up in your bookmarks
and tracks list and works fully offline.

Before you leave home, download offline maps and check that each day shows up
in your app. Don't count on phone signal. Trails, rules and closures change.
